Gamerz (2005)

Post by Winnow »

Has anyone else seen this movie? I just finished watching it.

It's a Scottish film about a group of college students that roleplay D&D Dice/Paper games.

It will appeal to anyone that's roleplayed themselves but others may enjoy it. It starts off pretty bleak for the main character who happens to be the DM. You can't be 'too cool for school' to enjoy this one as you'll have to identify with the nerdy gamers.

There's more to it than the gaming aspect and the few characters in the story are fairly well developed..actually only three of them are main characters in the story.

The Scottish accents aren't so bad that you can't understand them and they say 'aye' a lot IRL so it kind of adds to the roleplaying : )

90/100 for Jice as there's painted metal figures in it
88/100 for anyone that's played pen and paper D&D.
7/10 for the rest of you that can handle a low budget foreign film with no explosions

Here's the You Tube trailer for the Gamerz:

I'm not sure about the availability of this movie as it's a foreign film. It was posted 24-26 days ago on alt.binaries.movies.divx...don't bother unless you have Newsleecher Super Search as that's about 2.5 million posts old now in that group.

Hopefully it's available on Netflix or from another source if you think it's something you might like.

Today's your lucky day! I zipped up the movie and posted it to my server so a friend could grab it.

Now's your chance to grab it if you think you'd enjoy it based on the description and trailer above.

Good stuff.

I just watched it this morning. It was a really cute movie. I also loved the soundtrack from a Scottish band called Aberfeldy, so I went on itunes and bought the album. It's a really poetic album, and "Love is an Arrow" is a nice flagship piece. Thanks for the recommendation.

Their music caught my attention as well. A little while back, I posted two of their music videos on the "post a cool song" thread in the Audio forum. The Tom Weir video quality was a little bad but I like that song as well.

Glad you enjoyed the movie! The Scottish film and accents make for a nice change of pace from the norm.

Yeah. The fact that the movie featured all Scottish actors/actresses just increased it's entertainment for me. I could listen to that accent all day and never get tired of it.

Besides the Scottish movie, "Gamerz" linked above, there's a movie that came out in 2006 called, "Gamers".

Has anyone seen it? I'm unsure about it watching the trailer:

It looks so so in the trailer. The trailer says it's better than Knocked Up and Superbad combined and a "meaner" Napoleon Dynamite. I think they went a little overboard trying to get people to watch the movie with those comments!

I haven't located a copy to check out yet. Just curious if anyone's seen it.
