Sure, government regulations plays a factor and or course they also take their cut directly in taxes but as far as the recently fluctations, mostly supply and demand. I find the argument that we should reduce our dependence on foreign oil to be unpersuasive. It basically boils down to saying that we need to be isolationist regarding trade in energy. As is probably not surprising to anyone that has read many of my posts here, an isolationist trade policy strikes m...

Re: Daily Show Excerpt from Last Night re: Abramoff Scandal
It's so fucking sad that I have to sit here wondering if we'll ever have a government free of this stupidity that actually does their fucking job. Mencken and O'Rourke said it better than I, so I'll just quote them. The government consists of a gang of men exactly like you and me. They have, taking...

Dr John - Live at Montreux 1995
I got this DVD for Christmas and I have been playing it quite a bit since then and it really is quite good. The good Dr. is an amazing piano player and he has a solid band backing him up at this concert (it also has three bonus tracks of a solo performance he did in 1986). Highly recommended.

Marb definately meant deficit. Only an idiot would believe that the US had no debt in the 90s. And by the way, even in 1900 the US had debt in the billions. Just wanted to make sure no one got the wrong impression from it. Also, the only reason I said at least 1940 was that was as far back as the t...

This is incorrect. For a few years (1998-2001) we had no deficit, meaning for that particular year receipts were greater than spending. But we most assuredly still had debt, The U.S. government has had debt since at least 1940.Marbus wrote: Remember that we had a surplus, NO DEBT, before Bushie took over...
